Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner | Preceptor & Educator
Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner & Nurse Practitioner Educator
Master of Science in Nursing – Saint Louis University
During your rotation, you will see a wide variety of patients — children (ages 6+), adolescents, and adults up through age 65+. You will work directly alongside Danielle Kennedy, PMHNP-BC, with plenty of time built in to ask questions, review cases, and debrief after patient visits.
Students participate in regular discussions of complex cases, clinical questions, and treatment planning. These sessions are designed to reinforce classroom learning while sharpening real-world clinical decision making.
As part of your preceptorship, you will be introduced to current psychiatric medications and treatment trends. Students may participate in select educational opportunities, including visits from medical science liaisons or professional discussions about new therapies and practical strategies for navigating insurance approval.
Danielle values long-term professional relationships with her students. Many maintain contact after their rotation for guidance during the transition to independent practice. She strives to provide not only clinical training but also professional mentorship to help students feel confident and supported as they enter the workforce.

I welcome PMHNP and Physician Assistant students who are motivated, professional, and eager to learn. I look for students who are committed to patient-centered care and who want to develop strong clinical decision-making skills in psychiatry.
I generally accept one to two students at a time so I can provide individualized teaching and mentorship. In special circumstances, I may accept up to three students if it aligns with scheduling and clinical availability. This ensures every student still receives the support and case exposure they need.
I have been practicing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for several years and have extensive nursing experience in both leadership and clinical roles. I have served as a preceptor for multiple students and completed additional coursework in Nurse Practitioner Education at Saint Louis University, which formally prepared me to train and mentor NP students.
Yes. Students gain exposure to children (ages 6+), adolescents, and adults up through age 65+. This provides a well-rounded experience across the lifespan.
Yes. Like many private preceptors, I do charge for rotations.
Please contact us directly for details about pricing. Fees vary depending on rotation length and specific program requirements.
Preceptorship requires a significant investment of time, teaching, and clinical oversight. Charging helps ensure that I can dedicate adequate time to mentoring while maintaining high-quality patient care.
Students will gain experience with a wide range of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, substance use disorders, and psychotic disorders. You will also be exposed to medication management, psychotherapy integration, and laboratory testing used in psychiatric practice.
Rotations are primarily in-person at the clinic, as in-person learning generally provides the best experience. However, some visits are conducted via telepsychiatry. We can discuss your specific needs during the interview.
If your school is covering the cost of your preceptorship, we are happy to work with them directly. We can be flexible with due dates and payment schedules as long as a contract is in place that outlines when and how payment will be made.
